If you have ever driven into downtown Vancouver from the South, then there is no doubt at all you drove through Fairview. Its borders encompass the Cambie Bridge in the East, Burrard Inlet in the west and Granville Bridge at the center. Though there are several multi unit Victorian style homes here, condos and apartments are by far the most common housing options. Tall apartment complexes and multi story condos dot the landscape, giving the neighborhood a distinctively urban look.
Like most neighborhoods near downtown, Fairview’s rents have been rising steadily over the last couple of years. It should however be noted that buying a home here is still much affordable than in areas farther west. One bedroom apartments here cost between $900 and $2,000 while 2 bedroom apartments cost between $1800 and $2500 or more. For larger than 2 bedroom apartments, expect to pay $2500 to $3000 a month, or more.
Students and urban professionals make up most of the population in Fairview. 42% of the residents are aged between 20 to 39 years. Seniors and young families are also there in plenty, though as in any other apartment-dominated neighborhood such as Yaletown, large nuclear families with 2 or more children are scarce. Wherever you choose to live here, Fairview offers an array of housing options from value priced, modern apartments to high end luxury condos.
With Granville Island within its borders, it is hard for anyone here not to have fun. The island attracts more than 10 million tourists every year, thanks to its scintillating views, parks, restaurants and shops. Other jewels of the neighborhood include Charleson Park and Stanley Industrial Alliance Stage.
